Product Description

Staroplzenecky Absinth is a Bohemian style absinthe made with many herbal extracts, the main herb being wormwood. An emerald green fairy absinthe with a very distinctive bottle and taste. Staroplzenecky absinth is manufactured in the Czech Republic according to the traditional French absinthe recipe with 64% alcohol (128 proof) and a production method that has been improved in excess of today's required standards. Absinthe Staroplzenecky contains 10 mg/l of thujone. It is one of the first absinthes that Lor Special Drinks distillery has produced.

Did you know that...?
The modern version of absinthe can be traced back to the modest Swiss laboratory of Pierre Ordinaire, a French doctor who'd fled to Switzerland in the wake of the French Revolution. In 1792 he combined local herbs, fennel, wormwood, hyssop and anise among others, in an alcohol base. He prescribed and sold the 136 proof concoction as a cure-all medicinal tonic. It soon garnered the nickname the la Fee Verte (the Green Fairy) due to its translucent hue and the strange effect it had on its imbibers.

Staroplzenecky Absinthe is very low in Thujone, almost not existent, but otherwise a tasty drink and is very common in bars in Prague. I recommend Absinthe Original Bitter for the 1st time buyer or drinker.
The Absinthe does, indeed, taste a little Scope-like, but is still the real deal, with a nice ride once you're into it. It isn't a conneseur's Absinthe, and suffered terribly in the side-by-side test I conducted with serval other brands, and may change the taste of cocktail recipes in unpredictable ways. However, all that said, I have friends who are not regular consumers who found it easier to drink. It is very novice-friendly. If sipped neat, with no other comparison and no mixers, it's shortcomings are eventually concealed. I will buy it again and offer it to occasional drinkers, although I'll horde my other good stuff to myself."
This is my 10th different type of Absinthe I have tried, and I must say I was disappointed. The green colour seemed a bit artificial, almost flourescent in color. Aroma was pleasant, initial taste was nearly all alcohol followed by a sharp pang of "mouthwashy" mint. After effects were not noticable. All in all, I would pass on this and go with the much better Fruko Schulz."
I've ordered two bottles and every drop has been savored. An excellent starter absinthe. I didn't think "mouthwash" per se, but definitely medicinal at first. Still, the flavors come out as you sit back and enjoy it. It's also great for people who've never had absinthe because of its comparably low thujone and alcohol contents and its good for people who're on a budget because it's significantly cheaper than most. I highly recommend it!"
I do have to say above all else the shipping was just as they say. Fantastic. I odered things from inside the US at the same time and recieved my Absinthe first. Bravo.
As for the Absinthe itself I chose Staroplzenecky mostly for the price, thinking it may be a good investment for the first time buyer. But wow was I wrong. The Bottle looks great, and will make a good keepsake, but it's nothing more then an expensive paperweight.
The Green colour got my hopes up once I opened the package from AO. I was excited to try Absinthe for the first time. Opening the bottle I was surprised at the mouthwash aroma that arose, but still wasn't discouraged.
(I love my Scope) I continued with the known ritual and had a fabulous blue flame over my spoon. Yes! I thought, this is going to be what I was waiting for....
From there, well, I'm sorry to say was where it all went wrong. And it wasn't the anisette or black liquorish taste that offended my palette. It was the fact that above all else it tasted like rubbing alcohol. Or wood alcohol. Immediately I felt as though I had to scrape my tongue clean. And down a bottle of Jose just to get rid of it.
Do I recommend this bottle? Absolutely not. But that isn't to say I'm not going to try a different bottle. I have another brand I'm thinking of trying next. I can only hope I'll have better luck."
