Product Description

At Absinthe Original, we’ve been offering the finest authentic wormwood absinthe alcohol, spoons and absinthe fountains since 1996 with the finest quality standards and the highest customer satisfaction with customers all around the world.

Absinthe Original Bitter Spirit with 35mg of thujone is real absinthe prepared from carefully selected herbs, the main being grand wormwood - also known as grande absinthe, common wormwood or artemisia absinthium - the main herb in the genuine absinthe containing thujone. Absinthe Original Bitter Spirit is made by craftsmen distillers to a secret 200 year old Swiss absinthe recipe and it is said by connoisseurs to compare with the rarest French cognacs.

Every single detail from appearance to finish has been taken into account with a really nice balance of wormwood and fennel. Only the highest quality ingredients are used in its manufacture and it is guaranteed to be free of artificial colorants, additives and chemicals. Absinthe Original Bitter Spirit contains many herbal extracts including angelica, aniseed, fennel, hyssop, juniper, nutmeg and wormwood (which contains the neurotoxin thujone). We make sure the Artemisia that goes into Absinthe Original Bitter Spirit is of a particularly exceptional quality and of unparalleled strength. The plant is hand-picked in the wild, in the deep, dark mountainous Bohemian forests known as "Little Switzerland", and extra special attention is paid to the handling, storage and processing of this rare herb.

With a fine olive green color and 35 mg/l of thujone, Absinthe Original Bitter Spirit offers the connoisseur the genuine Belle Epoque absinthe experience and makes an impressively prestigious addition to any collection of fine liquors. A fine olive green color of Absinthe Bitter Spirit occurs as a result of its natural ingredients with no artificial colorings added. This also explains why the color may appear slightly different from one bottle to the next. Unlike Chartreuse Absinthes, our Absinthe Bitter Spirit is not as sweet, it is more bitter, well balanced taste so typical for Bohemian absinthes. Bitter Spirit is also much stronger as Chartreuse absinthe is produced with less alcohol (38%-55%) and very often is made without Thujone!
Drink it with a little sugar and with the purest, coldest water you can find. Or use it as a base for your favorite absinthe cocktail.

Did you know that...?
Asides from alcohol, original absinthe contains a number of different psychoactive substances. Among these, thujone is of major importance, a substance released by the wormwood plant, known under the name artemisia absinthium. The effects of real absinthe can be mood brightening, stimulating even euphorizing.

Better than I hoped for!

I’ve read negative reviews of Czech absinthes but I have to conclude that those reviewers didn’t try this one. Properly diluted with sugar, this is a delicate, beautiful tasting absinthe with a light refreshing character and a smooth finish. It doesn’t loache like a French absinthe, but don’t let that fool you. Diluted, it has a clear, minty green appearance and is, despite its appearance, very potent. It has a pleasant calming effect over and above the effects of the alcohol. You won’t see prancing green fairies but if you’re reading this you probably already know that.

A word about absinthe from the Czech Republic: Czechoslovakia never banned absinthe like so many other countries in Europe did so long ago. And this necessarily means that they’ve had a one hundred year head start in refining their recipes and manufacturing process compared to other countries of manufacture that only recently got back to the business of making it. This is a very fine drink, it’s a very pleasant experience to drink it, and it makes the other absinthes I’ve tried, taste like bad ouzo. It’s worth the price and more. Try it, you won’t regret it!

Good but not "GREAT".

I was originally going to bash this for not being real Absinthe, but after drinking it? It does have a different effect than regular alcohol. While not being real Absinthe because it doesn't louche, it does have a Thujone effect that keeps the mind clear and in control. I have since tried real Absinthe from Switzerland and France and It's phenomenal, but I will probably order more from this site because it does taste good and I won't waste my good stock of authentic goodness just to get drunk, the good stock is for enjoyment.

Reply from Absinthe Original:
Seems like there is a lot of confusion about louche, so let us explain this... When water is added to some absinthes, they become cloudy. This is because the spirit contains components that are insoluble in water (primarily fennel and star anise), and hydration causes them to drop out of solution with the alcohol, turning the drink cloudy with a milky opaqueness known as louche.

Because Bohemian absinthe recipes use much less anise and fennel in local absinthe production, the majority of our products do not "louche" when water is added. The entire Absinthe Original line becomes slightly cloudy, but there is no strong milky opalescence (louche). It has no effect on quality whatsoever. Because French or Spanish absinthes are generally sweeter, they become more opaque when mixed with water.
