Absinthe spoon is used in the preparation of a traditional French or Swiss absinthe ritual.
This distinctive absinthe spoon is a high quality reproduction of the very popular Toulouse Lautrec slotted absinthe spoons that were made from quality stainless sheet. The spoon was originally designed for Toulouse Lautrec and features the insignia of Lautrec's famous initials at the top of the grill. These excellent absinthe spoons made of top grade stainless steel with mirror finish are by far our most desired spoons.
Absinthe spoons exhibit numerous holes or decorative openings by which the water drips through the sugar cube and into the reservoir of absinthe. The most commonly used designs are pipes, arrows, stars, clovers or clubs, crosses, circles, diamonds, round and flowers. The holes must not be too tiny or too large and the shape of the handles or spoon portion must not dip too low as to cause an imbalance so that the spoon falls into the glass. Genuine Antique Absinthe spoons are prized collectibles and hard to find given the long time prohibition on the drink. The prices of antique absinthe spoons typically range from $50 to $4,000USD, depending upon style, condition and rarity. Our quality reproductions capture the elegance of a lost age when Absinthe was a part of artistic and social life.
Traditional French absinthe ritual
First you pour roughly two to three ounces of absinthe into a heavy parfait-style stemmed absinthe glass. A perforated absinthe spoon is set upon the rim of the glass and a cube of sugar is placed on the spoon. Ice-cold water is slowly dripped from a glass carafe or absinthe fountain, onto the cube. The sugar dissolves and you continue pouring until the ratio of absinthe to water is about two to five parts, depending upon your taste and fortitude. Give the absinthe drink a spin with the spoon and drink like you dripped - slowly.
This spoon was actually a free gift for spinning the wheel on the website. It is well made, very delicate and as it is a gift I am sure the recipient will love the extra spoon for the sugar for their Absinthe
I got this only as a free add on. Since my style of drinking Absinthe is in a shot glass cold with a little vodka and water, I have no need for the ceremony and no need for sugar.
The Toulouse Lautrec Absinthe Spoon
This delightful spoon is very artistic in design, as well as being able to perform either the Czech absinthe ritual or the traditional louche.
I love the inscription on the handle, I didn't notice it until I placed a sugar cube in the middle and began dripping ice cold water. I like this one, it's almost like a double cube version in my opinion. I have 2, I ordered the squared for regular use and this is kept with the bottles on display. Thanks Absinthe Original.<br />
