|La Boheme UK Ltd.
A trading organisation that was formed in 1994 operating
both in the UK and in the Czech Republic. Although La Boheme is a British company it still
represents the romance that one would associate with Dr. Zhivago of Tsarist Russia and the
times when the Czech Republic was still ruled by the Austro-Hungarian Empire. With its
roots firmly embedded in Prague, La Boheme has a great deal of experience with Eastern
European products and the expertise of marketing within Western Europe.
The philosophy to La Boheme is by way of simple explanation. This company has picked up
ancient traditions where they had been left entangled in the web of history and has
projected them into the new millennium. La Boheme has engaged in a task, maybe daunting to
some, yet the positive approach that the company works has awarded it the Midas's touch.
Original Strong Absinthe
In the age of the theme bars fresh brands and tastes are encouraged by the gourmet. La
Boheme has taken traditional liqueurs, suitable for today's market, actively promoting
the bar industry.
Absinthe is described as crystal clear in the bottle, potent emerald in the glass. Being
144 proof, absinthe is as illicit as it is intoxicating. Sipped by Oscar Wilde,
Baudelaire, Manet, Picasso and many other prominent artists and writers, strong absinthe
was first used in ancient Greece for its herbal assets. Though invented in Switzerland,
strong absinthe has always been associated with France. The age of green absinthe began
during the Algerian War when French soldiers were issued absinthe as a fever preventative.
When they returned to France they brought the taste of absinthe alcohol back with them. In
the year 1912 the French drank 221,897,000 litres of absinthe a year which led to the
society columnist of the time A. Capus, declaring "Absinthe has become the favourite
alcohol drink of every Frenchman".
All brands of thujone absinthe - "The Green Fairy" supplied by La Boheme UK Ltd.,
are the genuine products manufactured according to the original recipes. All of La Boheme's absinthe
products have established themselves in the premiere league of liqueurs. Manufactured
according to the original recipes with 70%, 60% or 45% alc. vol. and the production
methods have been improved in excess of today's required standards. La Boheme is the only
company within the UK to offer a wide selection of varieties of absinthe and plays a
considerable part in the revival of the absinthe drink that was enjoyed by so many.
Without doubt, La Boheme Absinthe Original is the finest Absinthe with thujone available anywhere
in the world today. Made by craftsmen distillers to a secret 200 year
old Swiss absinthe recipe, it is said by connoisseurs to compare with the rarest French cognacs.
Only the highest quality ingredients are used in its manufacture and it is guaranteed to be free
of artificial colorants and chemicals. La Boheme Absinthe Original comes in a handsomely designed

Of course, as with all things in life, products of this quality cost a little more.
But we are certain that once you have tried La Boheme Original Absinthe, you will agree that
the little extra cost is well worth it. Drink it with a little sugar and water or as a base
for your favourite cocktail. Either way, La Boheme Absinthe is one of life's great pleasures.
Carlsbad liqueur is a traditional Czech herbal recipe suitable for modern cocktails or a simple
aperitif, which has a thoroughbred pedigree. Relaunched due to the demand of many existing
customers achieving great success throughout London's fashionable theme bars and chic
In 1805 an English physician by the name of Frobidge came to Karlovy Vary as a personal doctor
to the Count of Plettenburg-Mietingen. He took residence with Jan Becher, a local apothecary / pharmacist
who shared his interest in ethanol, oils, and aromatic herbs. Also, like Dr. Frobidge, he happened
to be an expert on medicinal plants, which were plentiful in the town and surrounding area.
Much time was spent in research during his commission as doctor for the Count, during which
he formulated a recipe for his 'elixir of life'. Before his return to England he gave the
recipe to Jan Becher, who refined it to produce the fascinating bittersweet taste of 'English Bitter'
known as Becherovka. This original recipe for the so-called 'thirteenth spring' is even
today under lock and key and a secret known to only two people at the distillery.
In 1807 production of Becherovka commenced and by the mid 1850's the liqueur could be found
as far afield as Munich, Vienna and Paris. The dark green rectangular bottle introduced in 1841
by the son of Jan Becher proved so successful and distinctive that it has remained to this day.
During the 1930's distribution of Becherovka extended to Italy, Spain, Egypt, then the US markets
and eventually, in 1938, to England. After World War II, during the annexation of Czechoslovakia
by the USSR, the state took control confiscating the distillery and its recipe. It is now back in
safe hands with majority ownership by the democratic Czech government. Over the years people have
gone to great lengths to duplicate Becherovka, but as most people know, the essence of a refined
drink is not just in the recipe. It is in the source of the ingredients and the environment of
the distilling process. All these factors have been stable since 1807.
A testimonial to the success of La Boheme's marketing is the support that the company has
formed with restaurateurs and caterers. The demand for Absinthe Original has achieved
record-breaking results. A humorous story being that the marketing programme has been so
good that the company has even achieved a reputation outside of the catering and
hospitality industry. La Boheme has been asked by Twentieth Century Fox for Czech green
absinthe to feature in a film called Moulin Rouge with Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman.
This again is a testimonial that La Boheme represents the quality of an age gone by, but
is a company rapidly gaining in reputation. And following the success of the
absinthe-soaked films Moulin Rouge, From Hell, Eurotrip and Van Helsing the absinthe
revival looks like it's here to stay.
La Boheme works on an over night delivery service, as long as an order is in by the close
of business that night, delivery is guaranteed to be there by the next morning. Delivery
vans can frequently be seen around the streets of London maintaining present accounts such
as Fortnum & Mason, Harvey Nichols, The Royal Garden Hotel and the American Embassy to
name but a few. La Boheme UK Ltd. employs a team of 15 dealing with every single possible
aspect of the company.
The future heralds well for La Boheme, a name that is rapidly becoming synonymous with
luxury products. The management considers it vital to maintain traditional "small
company" values where the needs of the customers are catered for by continuously
providing an attentive ear and ensuring flexibility at all times. It is hoped that the
coat of arms will always be associated with these values as well as appreciating the
quality of the products.
